The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, Tony Ameachi, in connection with an alleged case of obtaining money under false pretence involving ₦2.5 million.
The arrest followed a breakthrough in an investigation that commenced in April 2026 after a complaint was lodged with the police over the alleged transaction.
According to the report, the incident occurred on April 1, 2026, when the complainant, who is involved in the purchase and resale of deep freezers, came across an online advertisement offering the appliances for sale.
The complainant subsequently contacted the person behind the advertisement and expressed interest in purchasing the goods.
Following discussions over the transaction, the complainant allegedly paid a total sum of ₦2.5 million for the deep freezers. However, the goods were reportedly not delivered as expected, leading to suspicions of fraud.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police, prompting detectives attached to the Ogun State Police Command to commence an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the transaction.
The arrest of Ameachi represents a major development in the investigation, while police are expected to establish his precise role in the alleged offence and determine whether other individuals were involved. The suspect will be subjected to further investigation before being charged in accordance with the law.
