The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has uncovered underground tunnels and heavily fortified entrances at a suspected drug hideout in Asaba, Delta State, prompting investigations into the facility’s possible links to other criminal activities.

The discovery was made on Monday, October 12, during an operation at a property identified in reports as Fallingwater Colehouse, along the 74 Junction Asaba Specialist Hospital axis. The operation followed intelligence reports concerning suspected drug-related activities at the location.

According to the NSCDC, operatives encountered multiple layers of reinforced iron doors and struggled for three days to gain access to the building. They eventually entered through the roof, using equipment to breach the structure.

Inside, the operatives reportedly discovered underground passages with separate entry and exit points. The command suspects the tunnels may have been used by occupants to evade security personnel, although their precise purpose remains under investigation.

Items reportedly recovered from the premises included suspected cannabis and other materials believed to be connected to drug-related activities. Reports differ on some of the recovered items and the circumstances surrounding the operation, making further confirmation from the NSCDC important.

The unusual structure has also prompted investigators to examine whether the facility may be connected to kidnapping or other criminal activities. However, no confirmed evidence establishing such links has been made public, and the allegations should not be treated as proven.

The NSCDC said investigations would seek to establish who owns or controls the property, determine the purpose of the tunnels and identify anyone connected with the suspected activities. Further findings from the relevant security agencies are expected to clarify the case.

The discovery has drawn attention to security concerns in the area, but the outcome of the investigation will be crucial in determining whether the tunnels were used for drug distribution, evading law enforcement or any other unlawful purpose.
