The Federal Government has intensified performance monitoring across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), warning public institutions to demonstrate accountability, sustain reforms and deliver measurable results.

The renewed drive aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s zero-tolerance stance on non-performance and is aimed at improving the efficiency and responsiveness of government institutions.

The Director-General of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), Princess Zahrah Mustapha Audu, disclosed the development during a high-level strategic engagement on data collection and harmonisation across MDAs in Abuja.

The meeting, hosted by the Federal Ministry of Finance, focused on institutional performance, compliance with government reforms and measures to address gaps in public service delivery.

Presenting findings from the Business Environment Enhancement Programme Accelerator (BEEPA), Audu said 16 MDAs had achieved full implementation of the reforms assessed. However, subsequent mystery-shopping exercises revealed that some agencies became less responsive after active monitoring ended.

She said the findings highlighted the need to move beyond periodic compliance checks towards sustained improvements in institutional performance.

To strengthen oversight, PEBEC will continue using mystery-shopping exercises, a live performance tracker and the forthcoming year-end Business Facilitation Act Compliance Ranking to assess agencies, identify weaknesses and hold institutions accountable for their commitments.

The Federal Government is also placing greater emphasis on the performance, responsiveness and compliance of agencies in its engagements with them. PEBEC said it would continue working with public institutions to strengthen transparency, improve efficiency and ensure that reform commitments translate into tangible benefits for citizens and businesses.
