The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, has been honoured by the United International Peace and Governance Council (UNIPGC) during the Nigeria @ 66 Peace and Governance Leadership Conference in Lagos.

The recognition was presented at an event held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Four Points by Sheraton, Victoria Island, Lagos. UNIPGC had announced the event as part of its Nigeria @ 66 programme focused on leadership excellence, public service, peacebuilding and good governance, with Adebutu listed among the personalities scheduled for recognition.

According to a statement issued by the Ogun State PDP Publicity Secretary, Arc. Otunba Kayode Adebayo, Adebutu was represented at the event by the Secretary of the Ogun State PDP Elders Council, Prince Lekan Tejuoso, who received the recognition on his behalf.

The statement said Tejuoso conveyed Adebutu’s appreciation to the organisers and also presented his position on the need for institutionalised public debates for political aspirants seeking elective positions at both state and national levels.

Adebutu was quoted as saying that substantive debates would enable voters to assess the quality, skills, intellectual capacity and administrative abilities of candidates. He also argued that such debates could help expose false claims and questionable credentials while raising standards of political leadership.

The PDP statement further quoted Adebutu as calling on political actors, stakeholders and young Nigerians to reject electoral violence ahead of the 2027 general elections and embrace peaceful democratic participation. He reportedly said citizens should allow peace to prevail during the elections and beyond.

The Ogun PDP congratulated Adebutu on the recognition and described him as a politician committed to peaceful and issue-based politics. The party also used the occasion to appeal to residents of the state to support the PDP.
