Peoples Democratic Party chieftain in Ogun State, Otunba Segun Showunmi, has called on non-indigene associations and hunters’ groups in the state to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for re-election in the 2027 presidential election.

Showunmi made the appeal on Saturday during a meeting with representatives of various non-indigene associations and hunters’ groups in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. He described the forthcoming election as an “election of liberation” and urged the groups to mobilise their members ahead of the poll.

The PDP chieftain said he expected the groups to ensure strong voter participation and support for Tinubu, arguing that the 2027 election would be significant in determining the continued rotation of political power between the regions.

Showunmi also argued that non-indigenes had made significant contributions to Ogun State’s social and economic development. He urged residents from different parts of the country living in the state to participate actively in the political process and exercise their voting rights.

He further appealed for political understanding between the regions, saying the South should retain the presidency for the current political cycle. Showunmi also said he believed an Igbo person could eventually emerge as President, urging political groups in the South-East to build alliances rather than pursue the presidency through confrontation.

Responding on behalf of the non-indigene groups, the Chairman of the Non-Indigene Association of Ogun State, Egba Zone, Francis Nwanze, declared support for Tinubu. Nwanze said the association, which has coordinators across the state’s 20 local government areas, had benefited from Showunmi’s support for some of its activities.

The hunters’ groups also pledged their support for Tinubu’s 2027 campaign. Yusuf Alao, who spoke on behalf of the hunters, said the group had more than 1,000 members and expressed their readiness to support the President’s re-election bid.
