The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged Nigerians to remain hopeful, promote peace and unity, and put the interests of the country above personal and sectional considerations as Nigeria celebrates its 66th Independence Anniversary.

The party made the call in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, in Abuja on Thursday to mark the anniversary. The PDP acknowledged the challenges facing the country, but urged Nigerians not to lose hope in the future.

Mohammed said Nigeria remained richly endowed with human and natural resources, adding that the country’s ethnic, cultural and religious diversity could be harnessed to promote unity, creativity and national development. He called on citizens to continue to uphold peace, national cohesion and patriotism.

The PDP spokesman also urged Nigerians, particularly political leaders, to reject violence and corruption and place national interests above personal or sectional considerations. He said the country needed to create an environment where young Nigerians could pursue their ambitions and look to the future with confidence.

Mohammed said the PDP remained committed to democracy, good governance and the welfare of Nigerians. He added that the party would continue to position itself as an alternative platform for providing leadership capable of helping the country realise its potential.

He also called on Nigerians to remember the sacrifices of the country’s founding fathers and others who contributed to national development. According to him, the Independence anniversary provides an opportunity to renew the collective commitment to building a better country and restoring hope for younger generations.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, saying the country had the resources and potential to overcome its challenges. He urged Nigerians to work together in the national interest, declaring that Nigeria had what it takes to rise and achieve greater progress.
