The directive was contained in a police wireless message dated September 25, 2026, with reference number DTO: 251451/09/2026, issued from the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters Secretariat in Abuja.
The Nigeria Police Force has directed its commands and formations nationwide to immediately relieve from duty personnel who have served 35 years, following a court order restraining the Force from reinstating affected cadet force entrants.
The directive was contained in a police wireless message dated September 25, 2026, with reference number DTO: 251451/09/2026, issued from the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters Secretariat in Abuja.
The message, addressed to various departments, directorates, commands, formations and specialised units of the Force, directed the affected police authorities to comply with an order issued in Suit No. NICN/KN/51/2026, instituted by Advocacy for Human Rights and Cultural Values for Development Initiatives against the Inspector-General of Police and five others.
According to the wireless message, the order is currently in force and restrains the Nigeria Police Force from reinstating the affected cadet force entrants.
The message, signed under the authority of the Inspector-General of Police Secretariat, directed that the court order be given immediate effect.
It specifically instructed Commissioners of Police in all states and heads of formations to relieve concerned Force entrants who have completed 35 years of service of their duty posts.
The directive reads in part: “INGENPOL strongly directs you give immediate effect to the order by relieving concerned Force entrants that have served thirty-five (35) years of yours of their duty posts…”
The Force further ordered the affected commands and formations to compile and forward a list of all personnel covered by the directive.
“INGENPOL further directs you collate [and] forward… list of affected Force entrants,” the wireless message stated.
The latest directive follows an earlier letter referenced in the communication, INGENPOL letter No. CB:3514/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOL.48/78 of September 25, 2026.
The wireless message also referenced an earlier communication, letter No. CH:8400/FS/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.2/238 dated July 31, 2026, in relation to the issue.
The directive was circulated to a wide range of police departments and formations, including the Deputy Force Secretary, Department of Operations, Department of Logistics and Supply, Force Criminal Investigation Department, Department of Training and Development, Department of Research and Planning, Department of Information and Communication Technology, Force Intelligence Department, Police College formations, zonal commands, state commands and specialised units.
It was also sent to formations including the Force Armament Section, Border Patrol, Counter-Terrorism Force, Air Wing, Maritime Police, Police Mobile Force, Airport Police, Port Police, Bomb Disposal Unit, Police Provost, Welfare, Education, Tracking and other specialised formations.
The message was marked “M/IMMEDIATE” and instructed recipients to treat the directive as very important and ensure compliance.
