The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), in collaboration with the Katsina State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has launched a state-level step-down training for master trainers on Greening Schools and Climate Change Education Intervention as part of efforts to strengthen environmental awareness and improve the quality of basic education across the state.

Declaring the training open in Katsina on Monday, the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Kabir Gafiya, described the initiative as the first of its kind in the state and a major step towards advancing Governor Dikko Radda’s education reform agenda.

Gafiya said climate change has become a global challenge requiring collective action, stressing that the training would equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to understand, monitor, and address climate-related issues within schools and communities.

He urged education stakeholders to embrace the programme wholeheartedly and ensure that the knowledge gained is cascaded to other teachers and education managers across the state.

The SUBEB chairman also called on participants to make the most of the workshop by actively engaging in the sessions and applying the lessons to promote environmentally friendly practices in schools.

In a related development, Gafiya also declared the opening of a four-day capacity-building workshop for newly recruited Quality Assurance Officers, principals, and head teachers on School Self-Evaluation.

The workshop, jointly organised by UBEC and Katsina SUBEB at the Education Resource Centre, Katsina, is designed to strengthen school management and accountability through evidence-based assessment and planning.

According to the organizers, the training will equip participants with practical knowledge and skills to effectively conduct school self-evaluation, identify areas of strength and improvement, and develop sustainable school improvement plans based on reliable data.
