The Police in Adamawa State have confirmed the killing of a police officer and four other persons during an attack on Gaya Dlang community in Kuva Gaya District of Hong Local Government Area by unknown gunmen.

The incident was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Suleiman Yahya-Nguroje, while speaking to Channels Television at the command headquarters in Yola.

The attack, which occurred at about 5:00 p.m. on Monday, reportedly involved the setting ablaze of several homes and the looting of food items by the attackers.

During the attack, a police inspector serving in Kuva Gaya was killed alongside four other persons.
The incident is the second attack recorded in the area within a month, following the attack on Zah community in Yadul District, which, according to sources, claimed four lives, including a forest guard.

The police spokesman said security personnel, including the military, have been deployed to the community to secure the area and ascertain the exact number of casualties.

Several residents sustained minor injuries while fleeing the attack and received medical attention at the Federal Medical Centre in Hong. The bodies of the deceased have also been deposited at the FMC mortuary.

Nguroje assured residents that normalcy has been restored in the community following the deployment of additional security personnel, while investigation is ongoing to unravel those behind the attack.

The persistent attacks by unknown gunmen have raised concerns among residents, many of whom are farmers.

The attacks have reportedly forced some residents to abandon their farms, particularly during the peak of farming activities, disrupting agricultural activities and raising concerns about food security in the area.
