The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State and the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) have exchanged accusations over the alleged vandalisation of campaign billboards belonging to APC governorship candidate Senator Sharafadeen Alli and his running mate, Soji Adedeji, in Ibadan.

The dispute followed an allegation by the Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) that supporters of APM governorship candidate Bimbo Adekanmbi were responsible for damaging campaign materials at several locations across the state capital.

In a statement issued by its Director of Media and Publicity, Bisi Oladele, the campaign organisation listed Mokola, Sango, Monatan-Olodo Road, Odo-Ona and the Toll Gate–Iwo Road section of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway among the affected areas. It also linked the alleged incident to an earlier attack it said involved Alli’s wife and two other APC candidates, although that separate allegation requires independent confirmation.

SSACO condemned the reported destruction of the billboards, describing it as an attack on the right of candidates to campaign freely ahead of the 2027 governorship election. It called on the Oyo State Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to investigate the incident, identify those responsible and prevent further damage to campaign materials.

However, the APM Governorship Campaign Council denied any involvement in the alleged vandalism. Its Director of Communication and spokesperson, Yinka Oladoyinbo, described the accusations against Adekanmbi and the party as unsubstantiated and urged the APC to stop associating them with acts of violence without evidence.

The APM also called on security agencies to investigate the matter and establish what happened. Both camps urged their supporters to remain peaceful, while their statements contained competing claims about the political atmosphere and conduct of rival campaigns ahead of the election.

The identities of those responsible for the alleged billboard damage have not been established by any police findings identified in the available reports. An impartial investigation would help determine the facts, protect campaign materials and reduce the risk of political tensions escalating as parties prepare for the 2027 polls.
