Five people have reportedly sustained serious injuries after a 40-foot HOWO truck crashed into two commercial buses at Berger Bus Stop, inward Kara Bridge, in Lagos State, on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
The accident occurred shortly after 1 p.m., with reports indicating that the truck was travelling from Lagos towards Kara Bridge when it struck the two buses parked by the roadside. The collision left several passengers injured and disrupted traffic along the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway corridor.
An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) at the scene reportedly attributed the crash to brake failure. However, the precise cause of the accident has not been independently established, and the circumstances remain subject to investigation.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) later confirmed that five people, comprising three women and two men, including the driver, sustained serious injuries. According to the agency, its operatives rescued the victims and facilitated their evacuation to the Lagos State Emergency and Trauma Centre at Toll Gate for medical attention.
Personnel from Isheri Police Station also provided security support at the scene, while the accident caused a significant traffic backlog extending towards Otedola Bridge. LASTMA subsequently coordinated the removal of the affected vehicles, including the truck, from the carriageway to reduce the risk of further accidents and restore traffic movement.
The vehicles were later handed over to the police for investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision. LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed sympathy with the injured victims and wished them a speedy recovery.
The agency urged motorists, particularly operators of heavy-duty vehicles, to ensure regular vehicle maintenance, confirm that their vehicles are roadworthy before journeys and comply with traffic safety regulations. LASTMA reiterated that proper vehicle checks and responsible driving are essential to reducing avoidable crashes and protecting road users.
