The decision follows negotiations with the Lagos State Government over staff welfare and outstanding agreements.

Lecturers at Lagos State University (LASU), Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) and Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) are expected to resume academic activities after the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) suspended its industrial action at the three institutions.

The union announced the suspension on Friday in a joint statement signed by Olusegun Babalola, Coordinator of the Steering Committee, ASUU-LASU; Grace Abimbola, Acting Chairman, ASUU-LASUED; and Murisiku Onigemo, Chairman, ASUU-LASUSTECH.

The decision followed negotiations with the Lagos State Government over staff welfare and the implementation of outstanding agreements, according to a report by TVC News cited by Punch Newspapers.

The union said its campaign for improved staff welfare and the implementation of key academic agreements had reached a significant milestone, attributing the progress to the support of individuals and organisations.

ASUU also acknowledged the contributions of civil society organisations, traditional rulers, students, parents and other stakeholders during the negotiations. It specifically commended the Joint Action Front, Education Rights Concern and Campaign for Democratic Workers Rights for their advocacy in support of public tertiary education.

The suspension is expected to bring relief to students and parents affected by the disruption of academic activities at the three state-owned universities. The union directed its members to return to the classrooms with immediate effect and reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence and quality university education.

However, ASUU said it would continue discussions with the Lagos State Government to secure the full resolution of outstanding issues relating to its members’ welfare package.
