Former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has called on the Federal Government to take all necessary measures to prevent a recurrence of the Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State.
Tambuwal made the call in a condolence message posted on his X account on Wednesday, October 7, following the crash of a Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft in the Igbokoda area of Ilaje Local Government Area.
The former governor expressed sadness over the incident and extended his condolences to President Bola Tinubu, the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of the Air Staff and the Nigerian Armed Forces.
He also sympathised with the families, friends and colleagues of those who lost their lives in the crash, describing the loss of each life as a devastating blow to the affected families.
Tambuwal urged the authorities to ensure that bereaved families receive the necessary care and support while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash continue.
He further called for every necessary step to be taken to prevent a similar incident from occurring in the future. The Nigerian Air Force has commenced a comprehensive investigation into the crash following a directive from the Chief of the Air Staff.
The aircraft, identified as NAF 931, was on a routine mission from Benin City to Lagos when it crashed near Igbokoda on October 5. The Nigerian Air Force subsequently confirmed that 25 people — five crew members and 20 passengers — were on board, with no survivors reported.
