Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has summoned heads of security agencies in the state for an emergency meeting following a recent rise in killings linked to suspected clashes between rival cult groups.
The governor’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, Samuel Ojo, disclosed this in an interview, saying the meeting would focus on measures to halt the killings and strengthen security across the state.
According to Ojo, the meeting is expected to bring security agencies together to address the recent violent incidents and reassure residents of the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
He said the government was particularly concerned about the spate of killings attributed to suspected cult clashes in Osogbo in recent weeks. Reports indicate that separate attacks in the state capital left people dead and several others injured.
The security meeting will also consider measures to improve surveillance of forests across Osun State. Ojo said recent security developments in neighbouring Ondo State had reinforced the need to prevent criminal elements from using forest areas as hideouts.
The governor’s aide warned those involved in violent crimes that the state government would not shield anyone found culpable. He said security agencies had been directed to intensify efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for the killings.
The latest development comes amid wider security concerns in Osun, with the state government previously establishing a joint security task force and ordering heightened security alerts following a series of violent incidents.
The emergency meeting is expected to review the security situation and strengthen coordination among the police, intelligence agencies and other security formations operating in the state, as the government seeks to prevent further loss of lives.
