The 2027 gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of veteran Nollywood actor and theatre icon, Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, who died at the age of 66 after a battle with cancer.

In a statement made available to the press by his media aide, Afolabi Orekoya, Adebutu described the death of the celebrated actor as a painful loss to the Nigerian entertainment industry and to the many people who were touched by his talent, dedication, and remarkable body of work.

According to him, Ogogo was not merely an actor, but a cultural icon whose decades of service to theatre and film helped preserve Yoruba culture and storytelling while entertaining and educating generations of Nigerians.

“Taiwo Hassan was a rare talent and a true icon of Nigerian theatre and film industry. Through the many roles he played, he brought stories to life, preserved our culture, and touched the hearts and lives of millions. His contribution to the growth of Nollywood and Yoruba theatre will remain indelible,” Adebutu said.

He noted that Ogogo’s journey in the creative industry was defined by hard work, consistency, and an exceptional ability to connect with audiences, adding that his legacy would continue to inspire actors and other young creatives who follow in his footsteps.

Adebutu commiserated with the Hassan family, colleagues, friends, admirers, and the entire Nigerian entertainment community, praying that God would grant them the strength to bear the loss.

“Ogun State and Nigeria have lost a distinguished son and a cultural ambassador whose talent brought pride to our people. While we mourn his passing, we must also celebrate the remarkable legacy he left behind.

“May Almighty God forgive his shortcomings, grant Ogogo eternal rest, and give his family, loved ones, and all who mourn him the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” Adebutu concluded.
